Guacamole is one of those food items that you can literally put on anything and everything you desire to. You may refer to this tropical fruit as guac and rightfully so since it has been known as ‘guac’ in the United States since the 80s. This avocado-based dip, spread, or salad was originally developed by the Aztecs in which is now formally known as Mexico. This green tasty dip has made its way into modern Mexican cuisine as well as American cuisine as a dip, condiment, and salad ingredient.

Avocados were originally cultivated in South Central Mexico about 10,000 years ago. Back in the early 1900’s, the avocado was nicknamed as the alligator pear from the locals down in Mexico. The Hass avocado is named after postal worker Rudolph Hass who purchased a seedling in 1926 from a California farmer and patented it in 1935. I bet you didn’t know that!

Guac has increased the sales of avocados in the US especially during our favorite pastimes like the Super Bowl, Cinco De Mayo and other celebrations that require a tasty dip for chips.

Our recipe is a special combination that our co-founder and CEO Sabrina came up with. With the combination of red onions, cilantro, and jalapenos you can be sure to get an authentic dip that will transport you to a quaint village somewhere nestled in the southern part of old Mexico.

This recipe is a perfect pair with our Baja Fish Taco recipe!

What you will need:

  • 2 Ripe Avocados
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 Lime
  • ½ Tsp Kosher Salt
  • ¼ Cup Diced Red Onion
  • ¼ Cup Cilantro (Chopped)
  • 1 Tsp Serrano or Jalapeno Chili (Optional)

How to make it:

1. Cut, peel and scoop out the flesh from avocado into a bowl.

By taking your avocado and making diagonal slices as seen below you will have even small chucks on avocado in your bowl making it easier for you to add and mix the contents together.

2. Add onions, tomatoes, chilies, juice of the lime, kosher salt, and cilantro.

Add the rest of your ingredients and mix until you get the desired consistency. Some like it really chunky and some love in smooth. We like ours right in the middle.

Now that you are a pro at making the best guac in the world why not give it a try? Make sure to take pics and vids and share them with us on our Facebook page.
